'Artificial Leaf' Creator at the Aspen Environment Forum

To get folks off the grid, MIT Professor Dan Nocera is replicating the photosynthesis process in an artifical environment to create energy and he wants to do it cheaply. Nocera was recently profiled in the New Yorker. So we dug up this nugget from last year's Environment Forum (also referenced in the article):

Seems like a good candidate for an "X-Prize" competition. Surely a Paul Allen would give $50MM to a team of scientists who can figure out how to do this at a comparable cost to coal.
