Taylor Branch Discusses The King Years

January 17, 2013  • Institute Contributor

On Friday, January 25, Pulitzer prize-winning author Taylor Branch will discuss his new book The King Years: Historic Moments in the Civil Rights Movement in Washington, DC as part of the Alma and Joseph Gildenhorn Book Series. You can watch his talk online starting at noon EST on the 25th at our Live at the Aspen Institute page.

In The King Years, Branch tells the stories of everyday heroes from the Civil Rights movement. The book follows the author’s trilogy America in the King Years, a landmark narrative history of the era that required more than 24 years of intensive research.

Branch is also a scholar of sports. His article “The Shame of College Sports,” a capsule history of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), sparked national debate in October 2011. Watch Branch discuss the status of college sports at the 2012 Aspen Ideas Festival and tune in for his book talk on January 25 at 12 p.m. EST.
