On Tuesday, July 14, 2009, at the Aspen Institute’s headquarters in Washington, D.C., the Council of Women World Leaders hosted a roundtable discussion with the Rt. Hon. Harriet Harman and Vera Baird QC, UK Solicitor-General, about the British Equality Bill.

Present to give an American response to the Minister’s comments were Commissioner Christine Griffin, Acting Vice Chair of the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and US Representative Niki Tsongas (D-MA). The speakers discussed the change in women’s roles between the last economic downturn in the 1990s and the current economic crisis and the UK Equality Bill.
