The global economic crisis has provided a unique opportunity to underline the urgency of women's health concerns globally. Decisive political, public and private sector action is needed immediately at the national, regional, and international levels in order to secure better outcomes for women's health. In November 2009 the World Health Organization launched the "Women and Health: Today's Evidence Tomorrow's Agenda" report which provides the latest global figures on women's health and identifies specific needs and health challenges that face women from birth to old age. Participating panelists from the U.S. Administration and international organizations will discuss the policy implications of the evidence showcased in the report and the opportunities and tools currently available to decision makers in the health care arena in the U.S. and internationally.

The WHO report will be presented by Dr. Tonya Nyagiro, Director, Department of Gender, Women and Health, World Health Organization.

Speakers include:

  • Dr. Susan K. Brems, Deputy Assistant Administrator, United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Bureau for Global Health
  • Dr. Julio Frenk, Dean of the Faculty, Harvard School of Public Health; Minister of Health, Mexico, 2000-2006
  • Ms. Michele Moloney-Kitts, Assistant United States Global AIDS Coordinator, Office of the U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator, U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR)

The discussion will be moderated by Mr. John Donnelly, Vice President and Senior Editor, Burness Communications, and renowned global health journalist who has written extensively for The Boston Globe.

By invitation only.
