The Aspen Institute’s Commission on No Child Left Behind (NCLB) held a national public hearing focused on improving accountability, data and high Standards.  Louisiana state superintendent and Commissioner Paul Pastorek and members of the Commission’s Accountability, Data, and Standards Committee, chaired by National Council of La Raza’s Delia Pompa, examined the current state of accountability under the No Child Left Behind Act/ESEA, including the impact of the common standards movement and Race to the Top activity and their implications for the law’s reauthorization.    Witnesses included:

Other participating Commissioners were: Andres Alonso, CEO of Baltimore City Public Schools; F. Philip Handy, CEO of Strategic Industries and former chair of the Florida Board of Education; Greg Richmond, President and CEO of the National Association of Charter School Authorizers; Edward Sontag, former Deputy Director at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Center for Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities; and Laysha Ward, President of Community Relations for Target Corporation and President of the Target Foundation.

The Commission encourages all interested organizations to submit written testimony on any NCLB topic for inclusion in the public record on our website.  Testimony should be submitted via email (titled “Testimony”) to nclb.commission@aspeninstitute.org.  Individuals may submit comments via the “Your NCLB Comments” tab on the Commission’s website.
