Business, Capitalism, Compensation, Investment, Roger Martin, Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto

The Aspen Institute Business & Society Program will host a breakfast book talk featuring Roger Martin, award winning author and Dean of the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto, with Andrew Ross Sorkin, chief mergers and acquisitions reporter for the New York Times. The two will discuss Roger's newest book, Fixing the Game: Bubbles Crashes, and What Capitalism Can Learn from the NFL.

In Fixing the Game, Dean Martin uses fresh ideas and a clear voice to tackle questions at the nexus of US capitalism and global prosperity: What IS the purpose of the firm and how do we fix the compensation systems that now reward trading and gambling over "real" market investments -- the business of designing, making and selling products and services? Dr. Martin uses parallels with how we pay athletes to explore the incentive systems that produce sub-optimal results. Says Martin: focus on the "expectations" market rather than real investment is "a bit like confusing winning the Super Bowl with winning a bet on the Super Bowl." Register now for what promises to be a thought-provoking conversation at the Yale Club.
