The 2012 Forum builds upon the deliberations of previous Aspen global convenings held in France (2008), Spain (2009), the United States (2010), and the Sultanate of Oman (2011), and upon ICU’s education model that emphasizes world peace and social justice. A distinguished group of prominent personalities from the fields of peace-building and reconciliation, business, politics, diplomacy, international d evelopment, philanthropy, human rights, media, arts and humanities, and religion will discuss the root causes of tensions and conflicts, review previous experiments with peace and reconciliation, as well as reflect on the diverse peace-building and reconciliation strategies of selected bilateral and multilateral agencies and the contribution of women in diplomacy. Forum topics will engage cultural questions related to tensions within Asia, nuclear weapons, Asian development and international cooperation issues, as well as the growing global interest in Asian perspectives on peace and security, prognosis of the region’s future, and the development of regional cultural diplomacy training programs.
