In Search of the Skilled Worker: The Challenge of Finding, Training and Placing Workers in Skilled Trades Positions

For a number of years, employers have expressed concerns about the Skills Gap – the perceived lack of qualified employees to fill the positions that employers have available. Employers in the skilled trades express these concerns as frequently as employers in other industries. Given the integral role manufacturing, energy, construction and other industries that use skilled labor play in our economy, this mismatch of skills to employment is a vital concern. To address this mismatch, changes in policy and behavior will be required not only of educational institutions and student/workers, but also of employers.

Please join us for a conversation that will bring to the fore some of the challenges that lay ahead and some of the solutions that can help us address these challenges.

Speakers:
Ray Suarez, PBS (Moderator)
Jim Ryan, W.W. Grainger, Inc.
Yonnie Leung, Pacific Gas & Electric
Peter Cappelli, Wharton School of Business – University of Pennsylvania
Bryan Albrecht, Gateway
