Society of Fellows Luncheon: Privacy – A View From the FTC

Edith Ramirez, Chairwoman, Federal Trade Commission.

At the last SOF luncheon of the summer season, Federal Trade Commission Chairwoman Edith Ramirez will discuss internet policy and legislation. Prior to assuming her position with the FTC, Ramirez was a litigator, specializing in cases of intellectual property theft, and unfair competition. She brings her impressive and relevant legal background to this discussion of internet policy, which will focus on the complex intersection between law and cyberspace.

The Internet of Things (IoT) refers to uniquely identifiable objects and their virtual representations in an Internet-like structure. If all objects and people in daily life were equipped with identifiers, they could be managed and inventoried by computers. Besides using RFID, the tagging of things may be achieved through such technologies as near field communication, barcodes, QR codes and digital watermarking. According to Gartner, Inc., there will be nearly 26 billion devices on the Internet of Things by 2020.

This event is open to Society of Fellows members only. Registration opens Monday, July 28

Featuring Edith Ramirez, Chairwoman, Federal Trade Commission.
