Meeting our Highest Aspirations for Capitalism (Public Program)

More than 50 years ago, the Ford Foundation changed the course of higher education with its landmark study of business education, “Higher Education for Business.”  During the afternoon and evening of Thursday, October 16th, the Aspen Institute will convene at the Ford Foundation in NYC a lively discussion focused on business education today — and its future. Our central question: How are business schools preparing our next generation to lead companies in ways that move us closer to a vibrant economy that works for all?

The program is the centerpiece of a 1.5 day Business Education Symposium for 60 teaching faculty from 40 business schools.  It offers the opportunity for faculty to teach to one another and a window into the work we do in business schools.

REGISTRATION:  Registration is required. The participation fee is $45 and will include a festive cocktail party. Please register online at Aspen Symposium Registration.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS:

Andrew Hoffman, Professor, U. Michigan, teaching “Coke in the Cross Hairs: Water, India and the University of Michigan.” The case explores the relationship between the University and Coca-Cola in the face of demands of activists concerned with the company’s environmental and labor policies*

Zeynep Ton of MIT, teaching “Mercadona”, a case about a supermarket chain trying to do right by its customers and its employees as the economic crisis of 2008 hits home.*

Peter Tufano, Dean, Saïd Business School, Oxford University

Darren Walker, President, The Ford Foundation

And a celebration of the 2014 Aspen Faculty Pioneer Award Winners!

* Revisit b-school, or experience b-school teaching for the first time! These sessions will be run as case study discussions with the researchers and authors of the teaching cases. Participants are invited to read the case in advance and participate actively in the discussion. (These two sessions will run concurrently).

EVENT DETAILS:   This event will begin promptly at 4pm on Thursday, October 16 at the Ford Foundation with our teaching sessions. Check-in starts at 3:30 pm. To see the full agenda, please follow the link below.
