On Thursday, February 18, 2016 the Aspen Institute Artist-Endowed Foundation Initiative announced the opening of admissions for the Seminar on Strategy for New Artist-Endowed Foundation Leaders and celebrated the occasion at an event hosted by the Roy Lichtenstein Foundation. Foundation directors, AEFI Advisors, Lead Underwriters, and members of the press attended the program which included welcoming remarks by host Dorothy Lichtenstein, President, Roy Lichtenstein Foundation and Charles C. Bergman, Chair & CEO of The Pollock-Krasner Foundation and Honorary Chair, AEFI Advisors. AEFI Project Director Christine Vincent described the growth of the field that has resulted in the need for professional development and AEFI Advisor Stephen K. Urice outlined the curriculum and innovative, site-specific format for the Seminar created in response to this need.

Leaders of several foundations that will host the Seminar spoke to the importance of professional development for new foundation leaders, including Christa Blatchford, CEO, Joan Mitchell Foundation; Elizabeth Smith, Executive Director, Helen Frankenthaler Foundation; and Jack Cowart, Executive Director, Roy Lichtenstein Foundation. AEFI Lead Underwriters Steven Pincus, Managing Partner, DeWitt Stern; Lawrence M. Shindell, Chairman, ARIS Title Insurance Corporation; and Linda Zambelli, Managing Director, U.S. Trust discussed their organizations’ commitment to educating about issues that are key to the artist-endowed foundation field and their enthusiasm for supporting AEFI’s work with the emerging field.

Scheduled for June 6-10, 2016, the Seminar on Strategy for New Artist-Endowed Foundation Leaders, presented collaboratively by the Aspen Institute Artist-Endowed Foundations Initiative (AEFI) and University of Miami School of Law (UMSL), supports the professional development of individuals who currently have, or will have, new policy-setting and leadership responsibilities for artist-endowed foundations—directors, officers, trustees, board members, senior staff—and orients them to the characteristics of these distinctive organizations.
