SOF Three-Day Symposium: The Birth and Future of Modern China

This three-day symposium will explore China’s future, in the light of its past and present: where China has been and where it is going as an economy, a political system, and as a global power. Topics to be explored include intellectual and cultural origins of modern China, the next five-year economic plan, the rise of Chinese universities, the tightening of Chinese politics, entrepreneurship at home and abroad, trade, corruption, and cyber-security, among others. Will China continue on its current trajectory of becoming a superpower or will the challenges the country is facing force China onto a new path? Moderators Dr. William Kirby, Professor of Business Administration and China Studies, Harvard University, and Dr. Orville Schell, Director of the Center on U.S.-China Relations at the Asia Society, will help unravel the enigma of this important actor on the world stage.
