It is with deep sadness that the Central America Leadership Initiaitve and Aspen Global Leadership Network mourns the loss of Ian Merriam of Honduras.  He suffered a tragic accident on June 26th dying instantly.  He is survived by his wife and three young children.  Ian was an extraordinary being, with a higher sense of solidarity and impetus for life.  These characteristics made him special in the lives of all the people that knew him.  He will always hold a special place in our memories and our hearts.

Aspen Institute Senior moderator, Stace Lindsay said " When I remember Ian, I have the image of a candle burning brightly, of a spring coiled, full of potential energy ready to release itself, of someone who was living life to its very fullest and not wasting time on idle pursuits.  Echoing others on their reflections of Ian - he was a life very well lived and well worth celebrating.  I wish things could have been different - but they won't be.  So to each other we must turn for support, for comfort and for the inspiration that might lead us to honor Ian's legacy by living our own lives with purpose, with passion and with the joy and laughter so evident in his."
