  • The first space-traveller has joined the Aspen Global Leadership Network.  Newly-minted Middle East Leadership Initiative Fellow Anousheh Ansari spent 10 days onboard the International Space Station in 2006, becoming the first-ever female private space explorer.  For more on Anousheh, see her website or her book. 
  • Two feature-length films directed by Henry Crown Fellows were released in the last month:  Tiffany Shlain’s “Connected” (Read a review and watch the trailer) and Jim Whitaker’s “Project Rebirth”   (Watch the trailer / Read the New York Times Review), look for them at a theater near you.
  • Rodel Fellow and mayor of Santa Cruz, California, Ryan Coonerty is featured in the Fast Company, sharing the entrepreneurial way he is attracting jobs to his city. 
  • Read a review of Catto Fellow and Method green cleaning products co-founder, Adam Lowry’s new book: “THE METHOD METHOD: Seven Obsessions that Helped Our Scrappy Start-Up Turn an Industry Upside Down”  where he shares the story of Method’s exponential growth and the secrets to their model.
  • Africa Leadership Initiative Fellows make up 25% of the Forbes “20 Youngest Power Women in Africa” list, including:  Gugu Msibi, Ndidi Nwuneli, Funmi Iyanda, Julie Gichuru and Stella Kilonzo. Henry Crown Fellow Jonathan Greenblatt has been named head of the White House Office on Social Innovation, taking over the reins from fellow Henry Crown Fellow Sonal Shah who has headed the office from its creation in 2009.  Read More

  • Henry Crown Fellow and Chairman of the Africa Leadership Initiative/Ghana Ken Ofori-Atta was the first African given Columbia University’s John Jay Award “for distinguished professional achievement” for building the investment banking industry in Ghana. Read More.

  • Aspen-NewSchools Fellow Kristin Groos-Richmond, Co-Founder and CEO of Revolution Foods was appointed to the White House Council for Community Solutions.  (Co-Founder and COO of Revolution Foods is Catto Fellow Kirsten Tobey).  Read more.

  • Aspen-NewSchools Fellow John Deasy was promoted to the post of superintendant of Los Angeles County Public Schools.  Read more.
  • 120 Liberty Fellows joined 600 other prominent South Carolinians for the first ever “Liberty Forum” to accelerate progress on South Carolina’s most vexing problems.  Participants met in working groups to come up with solutions to Fellow-identified topics in health, the environment, education, and economic development.  Read more.
  • Henry Crown Fellow Eric Li wrote an Op-Ed in the New York Times on how a "color revolution" in support of Western-style democracy in China could backfire badly -- leading to tyrannical populism and extreme nationalism. Read More. Reed Hastings
  • Netflix Founder and CEO Reed Hastings was selected as Fortune Magazine’s Businessperson of the year. Fellow Henry Crown Fellows Tim Westergren and Reid Hoffman also made the top 50 list and Cesar Conde and Stephen Gillett were named to Fortune’s “40 under 40” List.
