The ALI/West Africa Initiative, a joint venture between the Aspen Institute, Databank Ghana and LEAP Africa Nigeria, launched a second class of Fellows comprised of twenty-six outstanding Ghanaian and Nigerian leaders. They are highly accomplished entrepreneurial leaders from the business, government and civil society sectors.
The twenty six leaders met from June 2-6, 2008 outside Lagos, Nigeria, for their first of four 4-6 day seminars that will take place over 24 months -- The Challenge of Leadership Seminar-- geared to helping them on their journey from success to significance through a values-based approach to leadership.
"The new class of Fellows was selected through a transparent and rigorous selection process", says Ndidi Nwuneli, Co-Chair of ALI/WA in Nigeria. "They individually and collectively represent the rich diversity of their countries, and hold in their palms the promise of a united, economically vibrant and peaceful Nigeria and Ghana."
In addition to the seminars, each Fellow will carry out a leadership project applying their talents to a pressing need in their community, country or the world. Past projects have addressed job creation, the environment, HIV/AIDS, education, leadership, corruption, and civic participation, among others.
"The challenge and beauty of experiencing these great Fellows transform their Thoughts into Action in order to have significant impact on our society is a blessing. I salute them in these personal journeys which will change their lives and strengthen African Society." says Ken Ofori-Atta, Co-Chair of ALI WA in Ghana.
The West African Fellows join more than 800 other entrepreneurial Fellows from 38 countries, all of who have participated in a similar values-based leadership program, to form the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
