In response to this crisis in Haiti, Aspen Global Leadership Network Fellows have jumped into action as they tend to do in these kinds of situations.  Below, a few examples of what Fellows are already doing to make a difference:

  • Henry Crown Fellow, Thomas Tighe, President of Direct Relief International, is working to coordinate delivery of medical supplies to Haiti.  Two of their containers with crucial basic medical supplies have already arrived.  For more information on what Direct Relief is doing and to support their efforts, see their website.
  • Henry Crown Fellow Melissa Mowray led a post-earthquake assessment and action plan through her work with Project Backbone, which utilizes small but highly effective NGOs and  corporations as “backbone organizations” to amplify the scale of assistance and improve coordination to respond to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Haiti.
  • Our Good Works (founded by Henry Crown Fellow, Jonathan Greenblatt) offers a searchable index of volunteer opportunities related to Haiti.  Go to their website AllforGood.org for volunteer opportunities in your area.
  • Henry Crown Fellow, Sunil Garg helped set up a matching donation program for employees through Exelon Corporation and, with the help of several of his fellow Henry Crown Fellows, coordinated the availability of two planes to transport emergency supplies to Haiti.
  • Central America Leadership Initiative Fellow Enrique de Obarrio has been raising awareness and coordinating relief assistance through the “Private Sector of the Americas”   and the “Latin American and Caribbean Network for Democracy,” from hundreds of members of these hemispheric networks of private sector and civil society organizations, who are actively volunteering in their respective countries in the region, as well as on-site, in the Dominican Republic and Haiti.  The Private Sector of the Americas has also arranged with the Pan American Development Foundation (PADF) , and the International Council of Airports for Latin America and the Caribbean (ACI-LAC), for the distribution within members and installment of banners in different airports around the region, informing where and how donations can be channeled, through the PADF.
