Colleen Brown

Colleen Brown, President and CEO, Fisher Communications, Inc., Seattle, WA.  Colleen joined Fisher Communications in October 2005 as president and CEO and was elected as a director of the company on October 26, 2006. Prior to joining Fisher, she was President and owner of Aberdeen Media Corporation, an entrepreneurial venture founded to pursue opportunities in the U.S. television market. From 2000-2003, Colleen served as Senior Vice President at Belo Corp. in Dallas, TX, the oldest media network in Texas, and from 1998-2000 was president of the broadcast group for Lee Enterprises, Inc. a multimedia company based in Davenport, Iowa. She also served in various senior management capacities at Gannett Co., Inc.’s broadcasting operations from 1980 to 1998. She serves on the board of directors for the National Association of Broadcasters, the Maximum Service Telecasters (MSTV), and the Television Bureau of Advertising. She has also served on the National Association of Television Program Executives, Arizona Chamber of Commerce, the Phoenix Symphony, the Board of Trustees for the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Telecommunication at Arizona State University, the LPGA Standard Register/PING Board of Governors, the Fiesta Bowl Committee, NCCJ, Leadership North Carolina, the Colorado Children’s Chorale and the University of Colorado School of Journalism Board. She is a member of the Young Presidents’ Organization and Trustee of American Women in Radio and Television (AWRT). Colleen earned a B.A. in Business Administration and Political Science from the University of Dubuque and an M.B.A. from the University of Colorado.  She is a member of the 2000 class of Henry Crown Fellows at the Aspen Institute.  


Philip C. Calian

Philip C. Calian, Managing Partner, Kingsbury Partners, Chicago, IL.  Before joining Kingsbury Partners, Phil Calian was CEO of American Classic Voyages Co., the largest owner and operator of U.S. flag passenger vessels. He led a dramatic turnaround in AMCV's operations and focused the company on growing its core cruise products. In addition, he worked for more than 10 years with Equity Group Investments, Inc., the controlling shareholder of American Classic Voyages Co. Prior to joining American Classic Voyages Co. in 1995, Phil was President and Chief Executive Officer of CFI Industries, Inc., a custom manufacturing company. He has also served as Director of Mergers and Acquisitions for Great American Management and Investments, Inc.; as Vice President of the Merchant Banking Group at Paine Webber, Inc, and as an associate and an analyst at Merrill Lynch Capital Markets. In addition, he has experience working as reporter for The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and The Pittsburgh Press and as a chemist/researcher at Gulf Oil Research and Development Co. Phil is also an ordained deacon in the Presbyterian Church. He is a graduate of Brown University where he obtained a BA in Chemistry (with honors.) He and his wife Jill and their four sons and live in Evanston, IL.  Phil is a member of the 2000 class of Henry Crown Fellows at the Aspen Institute.  


Evan V Chrapko

Evan Chrapko, Chief Executive Officer, The GrowingPower Group, Alberta, Canada.  Evan Chrapko has been the founder and an award-winning CEO of a number of technology companies. He was named one of the Top 10 people to influence the technology sector when he and his brother Shane won the Leaf Initiative Award in Silicon Valley alongside the inventor of JAVA and a co-founder of eBay, among others. In addition, Evan was named one of the Top 100 in 100—a group of entrepreneurs who contributed most to building the province of Alberta during its first century. Alberta's Premier appointed Evan to the Alberta Royalty Review panel as one of its 6 members, with the mandate to review all royalties, taxes and fees paid by oil and gas companies in the province; approx. $17 billion paid in 2006. (Alberta's oil reserves are ranked the second largest in the world.) Evan is a member of the Young Presidents' Organization. In 2007, the YPO Alberta chapter presented Evan with its Laing Memorial reward for exemplary contribution to the organization. He also sits on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research, an organization that boasts one of the highest concentrations of affiliated Nobel Laureates of any entity on the planet.  Evan and his brother are currently commercializing a waste-to-green-energy technology as co-CEO's. Toward this end, they are raising $400 million to expand their existing plant, which is currently processing 100 tons of waste every day, and to build 3 other 400-tons/day plants at identified waste sites. Evan is a member of the 2000 class of Henry Crown Fellows at the Aspen Institute. 


Francis Cianfrocca

Francis Cianfrocca, Chairman, Bayshore Networks LLC, New York, NY.  Francis was previously chairman of Tempest Software, which flourished under his leadership growing to $8 million in sales in it's first five years. In 1991 he founded the predecessor to Tempest Software, Heldenleben Corporation, where he developed HeldenPort--the core product of the company and the world's first compiler for a graphical 4GL. The product was sold to Gupta (now Centura) and is used by over 40,000 developers around the globe. Francis is a noted expert in the fields of computer-language design, compiler implementation, network communications, and large-scale distributed application architectures. He has worked for a number of different companies either directly or as a consultant including Bank of New York, Gupta, McDonnell-Douglas and New York Life. Francis attended the Eastman School of Music in the Music History department and studied for his Masters Degree in Orchestral Conducting at the University of Michigan. He briefly worked at the New York City Opera, under the direction of Beverly Sills. He and his wife Paula, a singer with the Metropolitan Opera, reside in Long Island City, NY.  Francis is a member of the 2000 class of Henry Crown Fellows at the Aspen Institute. 


Deborah L. DeHaas

Deborah L. DeHaas, Vice Chairman, Central Region Managing Partner, and Chief Inclusion Officer, Deloitte LLP, Chicago, IL. Deb is the Vice Chairman, Central Region Managing Partner, and Chief Inclusion Officer for Deloitte LLP, which includes 23 offices across 12 states. In this role, Deb leads the quality, client satisfaction, growth, marketplace, and human resource initiatives in the Central region. She also serves as the lead client service partner or advisory partner on a number of Deloitte's most significant clients in the Chicago area. During her career, Deb has served a variety of clients, with an emphasis on those in the manufacturing, consumer products, and communications industries. Deb is a member of the Board of Directors of Deloitte LLP and is the U.S. Firms' representative on the Canadian Board of Directors. Prior to assuming her current role, Deb was the Vice Chairman and Midwest Regional Managing Partner overseeing 5,000 professionals in seven offices across five states. Deb has also served as the Regional Managing Partner of strategic clients for the Midwest. In this role, Deb led the management and development of the global strategic clients program for the region. In addition to her responsibilities at Deloitte, Deb holds several significant positions in the community. She is the Board Chairman of the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce and serves on the Board of Directors for Executives' Club of Chicago and the Kellogg Center for Executive Women Steering Committee.  She is also a member of the Civic Committee of the Commercial Club of Chicago and the Board of Trustees at Northwestern University. Deb's community involvement and philanthropic efforts have led to her recognition by numerous local and national organizations, including the 2010 City Year Chicago Ripples of Hope Award. She was also recognized by the Chicago Sun-Times as one of seven influentials in Chicago and one of the 10 most powerful women in business. Deb resides in Winnetka with her husband and three sons. She is a 2000 Henry Crown Fellow of The Aspen Institute and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.


David A. Ebersman

David A. Ebersman, Chief Financial Officer, Facebook, Palo Alto, CA.  David is currently the Chief Financial Officer for Facebook. He was formerly the Senior Vice President, Product Operations for Genentech, the world's second largest biotechnology company, in May 2001. In this role he was responsible for global manufacturing, facilities, engineering and supply chain management. David had been with Genentech since 1994, and previously held several positions in Business and Product Development, including Senior Director in 1998 and Vice President in 1999. From 1991 to 1994 he served as a research analyst for Oppenheimer & Co. analyzing biotechnology companies. David graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and International Relations from Brown University. He won the Wall Street Journal Prize for top graduate in Economics and the Susan Culver Rosenberger Prize for achievement in International Relations. He and his family live in the California Bay Area.  David is a member of the 2000 class of Henry Crown Fellows at the Aspen Institute.


Wifredo A. Ferrer

Willy Ferrer, U.S. Attorney, Southern District of Florida, Miami, FL. Willy Ferrer is the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida.  Prior to this he was Chief of the Federal Litigation Section for Miami-Dade county before serving as the Asst. County Attorney. Willy began his career as an attorney at the Miami offices of Steel, Hector, and Davis working on civil litigation matters and pro bono civil rights cases and as a clerk for the Hon. Judge Stanley Marcus of the US Southern District of Florida. In 1994, he was selected to be a White House Fellow serving as Special Assistant to Secretary Henry Cisneros in the US Department of Housing and Urban Development. Within a year he went to work at the Department of Justice as Counsel to the US Attorney General. In February 1999, he was promoted to Deputy Chief of Staff to Attorney General Janet Reno. Before moving to Washington, he served as a Director of the "Bridge of Young Cuban-American Professionals" where he aided in the re-settlement and integration of refugees in the Miami area. In addition, he helped found various organizations in Miami to aid teenage runaways and address drop out rates and racial strife. In 1984, he received a Silver Knight Outstanding Community Service Award (honorable mention) from the Miami Herald. Willy graduated first in his class, summa cum laude, from the University of Miami, and in 1990 earned a J.D., cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where he continues to serve as one of the youngest members to the School's Alumni Board of Managers. He and his wife Adabel and their two children live in Miami.  Willy is a member of the 2000 class of Henry Crown Fellows at the Aspen Institute.


Ford Goodman

Ford Goodman, Vice President-North America, Oracle, Redwood City, CA.  Ford Goodman is currently the Vice President-North America for Oracle.  Previously he founded Cloud9 Analytics (formerly Certive Corporation) in 1998, a broadband e-business services company delivering the economics of large business services to small businesses. Prior to that, he was CEO of Relevance Technologies, an Internet technology startup, which was acquired by Documentum in 1998. From 1992-1995, Ford served as CEO of CE Software, a publicly traded software company best known for QuickMail, the leading email solution for the Macintosh. Before joining CE Software, he worked with Informix Software from 1988-1992, where as Vice President of America's Sales he managed more than 125 employees and was responsible for more than $125 million in revenue. He has also worked as Director of Sales for Migent, Inc., was Founder and CEO for Princeton Properties/ProCom, and was an information systems consultant for Andersen Consulting. Ford holds a BSE in Civil Engineering from Princeton University with a minor in Architecture. He and his wife, Lynn, have two children and live in Hillsborough, CA.  Ford is a member of the 2000 class of Henry Crown Fellows at the Aspen Institute. 


Steven R. Grand, Ph.D

Steve Grand, Director, US Relations with the Islamic World, Brookings Institute, Washington, DC. Steve Grand is an expert on U.S.-Islamic world relations, as well as issues of political and economic development. He was formerly the former director of the Middle East Strategy Group at the Aspen Institute, and prior to that served as an international affairs fellow for the Council on Foreign Relations. From 1997-2002, he was director of programs at the German Marshall Fund of the United States, where he provided strategic guidance for the Fund's grant making ($10 million annually) and programmatic work in Europe and the United States. Before joining the Fund, Steve worked on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee for former ranking minority member Claiborne Pell (D-RI). In 1994, he was a visiting researcher at Charles University's Center for Economics and Graduate Education in Prague. Prior to that he served as founding Executive Director of the Civic Education Project, an "academic peace corps" that supports higher education reform in Central and Eastern Europe and the New Independent States. Steve has also worked on the national staffs of two presidential campaigns, as a teaching fellow at Harvard University, as a legislative assistant to a member of Congress, and as a project consultant at the Center for National Policy. He earned a Ph.D. in political science from the Department of Government at Harvard University, and a B.A. in political Science from the Government Honors Program at the University of Virginia, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa. Steve is married to Paige Alexander and has two daughters and a son.  He is a member of the 2000 class of Henry Crown Fellows at the Aspen Institute.  


Richard L. Grubman

Richard L. Grubman, Former Managing Director, Highfields Capital Management LP, Boston, MA.  Richard Grubman was the managing director of Highfields Capital Management LP, a Boston-based investment management firm he co-founded. Highfields Capital manages domestic and offshore hedge funds with total assets under management of over $2.8 billion. He previously served as a general partner of Corporate Value Partners LP, President of Sycamore Capital Management Inc., and as a managing member of Development Capital LLC. Prior to that, Richard was a general partner of Lakeview Partners, L.P. and of Ellistan Partners, L.P., both special situations investment advisory firms, and a vice president of Gollust, Tierney and Oliver, Inc., a strategic block investment firm. He started his career as an analyst and associate in the mortgage and real estate finance departments of The First Boston Corporation. He has served as a director of Odwalla, Inc., a publicly-held specialty beverage company since August 1997. He graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Princeton University in 1984. Richard was a noteworthy equestrian. He and his wife Caroline and their son Ellis live in Cambridge, MA. Richard is a member of the 2000 Class of Henry Crown Fellows at the Aspen Institute.


Mellody L. Hobson

Mellody L. Hobson, President, Ariel Investments, Chicago, IL.  As President Mellody directs marketing and client services at Ariel Investments (formerly Ariel Capital) --a Chicago-based investment management firm specializing in equities with over $3.5 billion in assets under management. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the company as well as its public mutual funds and shares in firm-wide management and strategic planning. She serves as Director of the Chicago Public Library, the Library Foundation, and of the Civic Federation of Chicago; as well as serving on the Boards of the Field Museum, the Chicago Public Education Fund, the 21st Century Charter School, the Women's Business Development Council, Do Something, and St. Ignatius College Preparatory. She is also a member of the Economic Club of Chicago. She spent three years as a financial reporter on WGN's "Minority Business Report." The June 1998 issue of Working Woman Magazine named her as one of its "20 under 30" and Ebony Magazine recognized her as one of the "30 Leaders of the Future." Mellody is a graduate of Princeton University where she received a Bachelor's degree from the Woodrow Wilson School of International Relations and Public Policy.  She is a member of the 2000 class of Henry Crown Fellows at the Aspen Institute.  


Kenneth Ofori-Atta

Kenneth Ofori-Atta, Executive Chairman and Co-Founder, Databank Financial Services Ltd., Accra, Ghana. Ken Ofori-Atta co-founded Databank Financial Services Ltd., an investment banking firm, in 1990 in Ghana, West Africa. Prior to that he worked with Salomon Brothers and Morgan Stanley in New York. In the ten years since co-founding the firm, Databank Financial Services has become the leading non-bank financial services institution in Ghana with banking interests in The Gambia and interest in insurance in Ghana. His contributions to the Ghanaian financial system and commitment to excellence has earned him a place as the only African (south of the Sahara) among Euromoney's top fifty global financial managers for the 21st century. In addition, he was named one of "50 Global Leaders of Tomorrow" at the 1998 Davos World Economic Summit, and in 1999 he received the Ghana Millennium Excellence Award as "Personality of the Year." Ken is a founding Executive Director of the West Africa Enterprise Network and a Board member of a number of public listed companies on the Ghana Stock Exchange. He received a Bachelor's degree in economics from Columbia University and a Master's degree in management from the Yale School of Management. He and his wife, Angela, have three children and live in Accra, Ghana.  Ken is a member of the 2000 class of Henry Crown Fellows at the Aspen Institute and co-founder of the Africa Leadership Initiative--West Africa.


Oliver Sharp, Ph.D.,

Oliver Sharp, Ph.D., General Manager of Strategy, Server and Tools, Microsoft Corp., Redmond, WA. Oliver Sharp is the General Manager of Strategy, Server and Tools at Microsoft Corporation.  He returned to Microsoft in March 2001 and has acted in a variety of roles within the Server and Tools Business relating to the company's distributed systems platform. Prior to that he served as Chief Technical Officer of iTurf based in New York City, which he co-founded in February 1999 as a spin off of dELiAs, the nations largest direct mail retailer to teenagers. In his role as CTO he defined the company's technical strategy and managed the teams that implemented it. In 1995 he helped to start Colusa Software, which was acquired by Microsoft Corporation a year later. He then worked at Microsoft in various roles. Oliver received a B.S. from Yale University in both Computer Science and History, where he graduated summa cum laude with distinction in both majors. Oliver attended UC Berkeley where he was awarded an M.S. (1990) and a Ph.D. (1995) in Computer Science. He worked at NASA Ames Research Center and was an affiliate researcher in the physics department at Lawrence-Livermore National Laboratory. He and his wife Erin live in Seattle, WA with their sons Patrick and Rowan.  He is a member of the 2000 Class of Henry Crown Fellows at the Aspen Institute.


Jonathan H. Siegler

Jonathan H. Siegler, Co-Founder, Greentouch Wireless, Hidden Hills, CA.  Jonathan is currently the co-founder of Greentouch Wireless. He was formerly President for Travel Worm, Inc., then a leading on-line travel serveices provider based out of Las Vegas, NV. Prior to that he served as an e-business consultant in Los Angeles, CA through his company Cardinal Consulting Group. He was also a director for Infinite Mobility, a mobile business solutions provider and acting CEO of Connectiv Technologies. From 1991-2001 Joanthan served as President, CEO, and Director of CreSenda Wireless. CreSenda focused on providing handheld wireless Internet services to vertical markets. He was also previously Director of International Operations and responsible for worldwide supply chain management for 3Com Corp.'s Palm Computing division, and served as Acting Director of Planning and Strategy and as Program Manager of Palm's OEM business. Prior to joining Palm, Jonathan was an independent consultant and worked with the US Postal Service Interactive Services Unit establishing a direct retail model for US consumer products distribution in Japan. He served as Director of New Business Development for the Wind River Group where he developed strategic alliances among clients for annuity driven businesses. He also managed the effort in creating a new non-regulated consumer focused subsidiary for a multi-national utility company. He has served as a management consultant for Andersen Consulting and specialized in strategic planning as well as designing and implementing supply chain logistics solutions in the high technology industry. In December 2001, he was named an American Marshall Memorial Fellow by the German Marshall Fund of the U.S. Jonathan holds a B.A. in Urban Planning from Stanford.  He is a member of the 2000 class of Henry Crown Fellows at the Aspen Institute.   


Shamina Singh

Shamina Singh, Former VP, Government & Public Relations, Nike, Portland, OR.  Shamina was previosly VP for Government & Public Relations at Nike, Inc.   Prior to that, she served as Deputy Director for Community Relations at Citi, where she was responsible for leveraging the resources of the world’s largest financial services corporation to benefit communities in over 100 countries where Citi does business. Prior to joining Citi, Shamina spent fifteen years in the public service sector building bridges between the public, private and citizen sectors. During the 2004 Presidential elections, she helped direct America Votes, a coalition of the largest grassroots organizations in the U.S., working together to increase voter registration, education and participation in electoral politics. Prior to that she was a senior advisor to U.S. House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, on Budget, Social Security, Health and Employment issues. Shamina is also founder of bridge2050, a strategic consulting firm focused on maximizing the growing influence and affluence of minority populations in anticipation of the year when they become the numerical majority in the U.S. In 1999, former President Bill Clinton appointed Shamina to lead the first White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. She also served as Secretary Alexis Herman's Congressional Liaison for Health Care at the U.S. Department of Labor, and prior to joining the Clinton Administration, was the Senior Health Care Lobbyist for the Service Employees International Union. Shamina previously worked with musician Bruce Hornsby, former Texas Governor Ann Richards, and former Dallas Mayor and Texas Secretary of State, Ron Kirk. She received a B.S. in Political Science from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA and a Master of Public Affairs from the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs in Austin, Texas. She and her partner Ashley Bell make their home in New York.  She is a member of the 2000 class of Henry Crown Fellows at the Aspen Institute.   


Srinija Srinivasan

Srinija Srinivasan, Former Vice President and Editor in Chief, Yahoo! Inc., Santa Clara, CA. Previously, Srinija Srinivasan directed the development of original content throughout Yahoo!'s global network of properties. In particular, she directed the design and maintenance of Yahoo!'s overall classification and organization scheme and led the team responsible for making Yahoo! a leading guide for online information and discovery. Since joining the company as its fifth employee in 1995, Srinija had managed Yahoo!'s team of editors and was responsible for the organization and evolution of the Yahoo! Directory. Prior to joining Yahoo!, she was involved with the Cyc Project, a ten-year artificial intelligence effort to build an immense database of human commonsense knowledge. Srinija holds a B.S. degree with distinction in Symbolic Systems from Stanford University. She has appeared in top publications and on television programs both locally and nationally, including The New York Times, FORTUNE, and "20/20." She was named as one of "The Net 50" by Newsweek magazine and was selected as one of the "40 Under 40" by San Francisco Focus for their second-annual brain trust. Srinija is a member of the 2000 class of Henry Crown Fellows at the Aspen Institute.

 


Mark A. Tebbe

Mark A. Tebbe, Chairman, Techra Networks LLC, Chicago, IL. Mark is currently chairman of Techra networks, a Chicago-based investment and consulting firm, and a founder of Answers Corporation. In 1984, Mark founded Lante Corporation and was chairman of the board until it was acquired by SBI Group in September 2002. Under his leadership, Lante grew from a two-person operation into an 850-employee public company with offices throughout the United States and Asia. He remained an SBI Board member until it was acquired in August 2004. Prior to founding Lante, Mark was a systems analyst with Arthur Andersen's Technical Services Organization. Mark is a noted authority on emerging technologies and the subject of numerous articles, including features in Fortune, Business Week, and The Wall Street Journal. In 1999 he was named to Crain's Chicago Business's prestigious "40 under 40" list and to Sm@rt Reseller's "Smart 25" executives list, in February 2000, he was inducted into the Chicago area Entrepreneurial Hall of Fame, and in 2001 was honored with the Illini of the Year Award by the University of Illinois. He serves on various corporate boards including Answers Corp. (formerly GuruNet), Elexos Corp. and Selective Search, and has served on the Boards of the Easter Seals, Big Brothers-Big Sisters, YMCA, Elmhurst Development Community, University of Illinois Alumni Association, and American Hyperlexia Association. He graduated from the University of Illinois in 1983 with a degree in computer science.  Mark is a member of the 2000 class of Henry Crown Fellows at the Aspen Institute.  


Beth Vanderslice

Beth Vanderslice, Former General Manager, Lycos Inc., San Francisco, CA. From 1996-1999, Beth Vanderslice served as president of Wired Digital, Inc. before it's acquisition by Lycos, Inc. She then served as General Manager for the Lycos San Francisco office until leaving the company in June 2001. While at Wired, Beth oversaw all areas of the operation including the original daily news service, wired.com; the hotbot.com search services; advertising sales; marketing; engineering; and the company's strategic partnerships. She was elected to the board of directors of Wired Ventures in 1998. Prior to joining Wired Digital, she was a Vice President at H. W. Jesse & Co., a San Francisco investment banking and business strategy consulting firm. She has also served as a principal in the investment banking firm Sterling Payot Company, and spent four years as a systems engineer for IBM. Beth received her MBA from the Harvard Business School in 1992 and graduated from Boston College summa cum laude with a bachelor's degree in computer science and marketing. She is an active member in the Young President's Organization and has served on the board of directors of Xilinx, Inc. and the Bay Area Discovery Museum. She and her husband Peter and their three children now live in New York City. Beth is a member of the 2000 class of Henry Crown Fellows at the Aspen Institute.
