The Henry Crown Fellowship engages the next generation of leaders in the challenge of community-spirited leadership. It brings together executives - most from the business world, all entrepreneurs, all under 45 - who have already achieved conspicuous success in their chosen fields and are at a point of meaningful inflection in their lives and careers. The two-year program comprises a structured series of four seminars and each Fellow will undertake an individual leadership project to put thought into action. April 22, 2012 Honest Tea is launching a new campaign that acknowledges that it is part of a problem of waste in discarded drink containers and, to counter that, encourages more recycling. The company’s first “Great Recycle” event will take place on April 30, in Times Square, with a 30-foot-tall recycle bin, then move to other cities. The immediate goal is to recycle 45,000 beverage cans or bottles — the number of products that Honest Tea sells daily in the city. From there, Honest Tea plans to expand its recycling aggressively. “Recycling rates are still low, so we were looking for something aggressive but still fun and engaging to deliver the message,” said Co-Founder and CEO of Honest Tea, Seth Goldman (2005 Henry Crown Fellow). April 13, 2012 Newark Mayor and 2003 Henry Crown Fellow Cory Booker helped rescue a neighbor from a fire on Thursday night. Booker returned home before firefighters had arrived and saw his neighbor's home engulfed in flames, and heard a woman screaming that her daughter was still inside. The mayor's security detail tried to drag him away, but Booker told them that the woman was going to die, Detective Alex Rodriguez told CBS. "Without thinking twice, he ran into the flames and rescued this young lady," Rodriguez said. Read more here. |

April 9, 2012 Netflix executive and 2012 Henry Crown Fellow John Ciancutti is helping to create a video-recommendation system that knows you better than an old friend. A big part of Netflix's future rides on how much Ciancutti and about 150 engineers can improve the software that draws up lists of TV shows and movies that might appeal to each of the video-subscription service's 26 million customers. March 25, 2012 Henry Crown Fellowship Program Senior Mentor Henry Louis Gates, Jr.'s new PBS series, Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates, Jr., begins airing tonight. The basic drive to discover who we are and where we come from is at the core of the new 10-part PBS series. Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates, Jr., is the 12th series from Professor Gates, the Alphonse Fletcher University Professor at Harvard University and director of the W.E.B. Du Bois Institute for African and African American Research.
