Queenstown, MD, October 28, 2011 The U.S. Navy Band Skipjack Trio performs at the Aspen Institute on Sunday, November 13, 2011 in the Wye Woods Conference Center at 3 p.m. This multi-faceted jazz group is led by Senior Chief Musician Juan Vazquez (vibes) and features Chief Musician Leon Alexander (drums), Musicians 1st Class Jeremy Middleton (bass), Joe Friedman (guitar) and special guest artist, Chief Musician Stacy Loggins (steel drums).

The Skipjack Trio is one of the Navy Band’s newest chamber ensembles and celebrates America’s truly original music; jazz. With a sound and instrumentation reminiscent of the Modern Jazz Quartet, the group’s repertoire digs deeply into the Great American Songbook by featuring time-tested melodic jazz favorites from a bygone era.  As an additional treat, for this performance, the Trio augments its lineup by adding a drummer and a “pans” player. Come out and cruise down to the Caribbean with the Skipjack Trio plus two.

To RSVP, guests must contact Mary Ann Dodd at mary.ann.dodd@aspeninstitute.org, or by calling 410-820-5433.

The Aspen Institute mission is twofold: to foster values-based leadership, encouraging individuals to reflect on the ideals and ideas that define a good society, and to provide a neutral and balanced venue for discussing and acting on critical issues. The Aspen Institute does this primarily in four ways: seminars, young-leader fellowships around the globe, policy programs, and public conferences and events. The Institute is based in Washington, DC; Aspen, Colorado; and on the Wye River on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. It also has offices in New York City and an international network of partners.
