Aspen, CO, January 13, 2012 –– The Aspen Institute will once again offer its highly popular Great Decisions and Great Books Series. The Great Decisions sessions will take place Tuesday evenings from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. beginning Tuesday, January 24, running through Tuesday, January 13 in the Koch Building at the Aspen Institute. Participation in the 8-week series is open to anyone and costs $195 for the public and $175 for donors, which includes readings. Scholarships are available.
In the eight week Great Decisions series, participants gather to discuss key foreign policy issues facing the world today, as outlined in the 2012 Foreign Policy Association briefing book. This year’s topics will include Middle East realignment, promoting democracy, U.S. relations with Mexico, cybersecurity, exit from Afghanistan and Iraq, energy geopolitics and the state of the oceans, and the world economy. James Arnott, Peter Fuchs, Parker Maddux, and Neil Siegel will moderate the sessions.
The Great Books series sessions will take place on Wednesdays from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. beginning Wednesday, February 1, running through Wednesday, February 29 in the Koch Building at the Aspen Institute. Participation in the 5-week series is open to anyone, and costs $150 for the public, $130 for Aspen Institute donors. Fees include the readings. Scholarships are available.
Aspen Institute senior moderator Pete Thigpen will moderate this year’s Great Books. Pete has been a Senior Fellow and Moderator for the Aspen Institute since 1989 as well as a lecturer at the Haas School of Business, and is on the board of a number of business and nonprofit organizations.
Great Books readings will include Dewey, Habits & Will; Woolf, A Room of One’s Own; Mill, On Liberty; Midgley, Trying Out One’s New Sword; Thucydides, History of the Peloponnesian War; Oliver, West Wind #2, The Summer’s Day; Chekhov, Uncle Vanya; Weil, Human Personality; Maimonides, On Evil; and Lessing, To Room Nineteen.
