The Aspen Institute and the Isaacson School for New Media Deepen Collaboration with Grant from Walter Isaacson
Aspen, CO, March 13, 2014 –– Thanks to a donation from Walter Isaacson, students at the Isaacson School for New Media at Colorado Mountain College will have free access to the world-class Aspen Institute events all year-round in Aspen, CO.
“This collaboration is an opportunity to expose students to the incredible resources of the Institute. In turn, the collaboration with the Isaacson School will connect the Institute to a new and diverse group within the Roaring Fork Valley community”, noted Walter Isaacson. As the School’s namesake, President and CEO of the Aspen Institute, Walter Isaacson is making this possible through his personal support and generous donation.
The program will take place over three years to build a formal connection between Isaacson School students and the Institute. Each year for three years, the Institute will allot tickets for public events for Isaacson School students. The process for selecting the students who get the tickets will be at the discretion of Isaacson School leadership.
A student competition will be held to determine which student qualifies to be granted a scholarship to the Aspen Ideas Festival. The Competition Criteria can be obtained by contacting the Director of the Isaacson School, Robert Martin at rmartin@coloradomtn.edu.
The Isaacson School for New Media was inspired and facilitated by Jim Calaway, an active philanthropist in the Roaring Fork Valley, Trustee of the Aspen Institute and long-time supporter of Colorado Mountain College. The Isaacson School offers accessible, affordable education and retraining for students who want to be prepared for jobs in the evolving digital landscape. The school was named after Walter Isaacson, a new media pioneer formerly CEO of CNN and the managing editor of TIME Magazine. He is the author of many best-selling books including the biography of Steve Jobs, late co-founder of Apple.
The Aspen Institute hosts several public programs throughout the year in Aspen for residents and visitors alike. Ranging from lectures with world-class leaders to transformational seminars for teens, these programs offer unique opportunities for a diverse mix of people to find inspiration in a variety of ways. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we are able to keep these events affordable, and offer scholarships to teens and adults to take part in our programs.
