The book is available for purchase at: http://asgrussia.aspeninstitute.org/

In The Crisis with Russia, authors share their insights and analysis on how the crisis unfolded, what it means for Americans, and how the United States should respond. The book is the product of the nonpartisan Aspen Strategy Group meeting on Russia in August 2014. This book helps to decipher the crisis, place it in its larger European and global context, and suggest ways to defend American interests and preserve peace in Europe for the years ahead. The book examines the past while offering a collection of ideas and suggestions for the turbulent future ahead.

Successive chapters focus on the most important questions produced by this crisis:

  • Who is Vladimir Putin, and what is his strategic ambition in Europe?
  • How should the U.S. and Europe respond?
  • What are the long-term implications for global energy and economics, for peace in Europe, and for Russia’s relations with NATO, the European Union, and China?
  • What are the policy recommendations suggested to President Obama to manage and diffuse the crisis with Russia?

The Aspen Strategy Group co-chaired by Brent Scowcroft and Joseph Nye, and directed by Nicholas Burns, draws on a membership of experts, both Republicans and Democrats. Many served in the most senior levels of our government. Others are leading journalists, academics, and business people. Aspen Strategy Group members represent the kind of thought diversity and energy that can make headway in addressing new foreign policy challenges. The Aspen Strategy Group began in 1984 as a forum to address arms control issues with the Soviet Union, and 30 years later, it is still charting a vital course for nonpartisan dialogue and strategy formulation.
