Aspen Institute and Defense One to Host Panel Discussion, “Beyond the Draft: Rethinking National Service”
Panelists include Gen (Ret.) Stan McChrystal, the Honorable Michèle Flournoy and Congressman Seth Moulton.
WHAT: The Franklin Project at the Aspen Institute, in partnership with Defense One, will be hosting a panel discussion titled, “Beyond the Draft: Rethinking National Service,” at the Aspen Institute in Washington, DC, on November 30, 2015.
The panel will feature General (Ret.) Stan McChrystal, who is the Chair of the Franklin Project at the Aspen Institute. The Franklin Project aims to make a year of national service a cultural expectation, common opportunity, and civic rite of passage for all young Americans. He will be joined by the Honorable Michèle Flournoy, CEO of the Center for a New American Security (CNAS) and Congressman Seth Moulton. Executive Editor of Defense One Kevin Baron will moderate the discussion. Prior to the panel, there will be short remarks by Aspen Institute CEO Walter Isaacson and Franklin Project Associate Director for Strategic Communications Tara Maller.
The panel will explore the Franklin Project’s national service vision as it relates to national security and foreign policy issues more broadly. The panel will look at how a culture of universal national service here at home can impact perceptions of America overseas, assist in bridging the military-civilian divide and build a stronger talent pool. As our nation heads into election season, the Franklin Project and Defense One aim to amplify the conversation around national service and the role it can play in strengthening our country and our national security.
