Aspen Institute in Ukraine Launched

KYIV, UKRAINE November 23, 2015 The Aspen Institute announced this week the launch of operations of the Aspen Institute Kyiv as part of its network of ten international partners in Europe, Latin America, and Asia. The goal of Aspen Kyiv is to become a valuable and respected platform for open dialogue to address regional challenges.

“We are proud to bring the Aspen Institute’s values based leadership approach to Kyiv,” said Institute Executive Vice President Elliot Gerson. “There are few places in the world today where Aspen values of tolerance, good governance, and the search for common ground are more critically in demand.”

Through seminars, policy programs, conferences, and leadership initiatives, Aspen Kyiv will provide the opportunity for leaders from industry, economic and political sectors, civil society, and the cultural world to work on critical current challenges facing society and businesses.

Aspen Kyiv has been providing leadership seminars for over 300 Ukrainian participants over the past eight years. Aspen Kyiv conducts its forums utilizing the Institute’s iconic Socratic formula with lively roundtable discussions centered on modern and ancient texts, all translated into Russian and Ukrainian. Participants have long included those now shaping Ukrainian civil society, including Oleksiy Pavlenko, the country’s new minister of Agriculture; Olena Makeyeva, deputy minister of Finance; Oleg Derevianko, deputy Minister of Education.

Aspen Kyiv will be headed by a board of directors chaired by Natalie Jaresko, Minister of Finance of Ukraine, and Vice Chair is Anatole Klepatsky and the Executive Director is Sergey Koshman.

The Aspen Institute is an educational and policy studies organization based in Washington, DC. Its mission is to foster leadership based on enduring values and to provide a nonpartisan venue for dealing with critical issues. The Institute is based in Washington, DC; Aspen, Colorado; and on the Wye River on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. It also has offices in New York City and an international network of partners.
