Pump Yourself Up: APEP Breakfast Abstract Up on our Website

You may have noticed that the abstract for our upcoming breakfast event on Monday, February 3rd was missing from our website last week.  As of yesterday, it’s now up in the interwebs for all to see.  Check it out here.  We’re super pumped to welcome Heather Britt and Melissa Patsalides for some morning “coffee tawk” about USAID, M&E and complexity.  Feel free to spread the word to your friends and neighbors (and cube-mates, roommates, partners, random people on the street…).

Reading the (Philanthropy) Tea Leaves

The philanthropy gurus at Arabella Advisors asked a group of leading philanthropists (including some high-profile Hollywood actors) to write their thoughts about the sector in 2014—its greatest challenges, opportunities for meaningful social change, and potentially effective strategies for engaging the communities served by philanthropic investments.  The report, Impact2014, is quite a treat!  We think consultant Louis Boorstin is spot-on: funders should devote time and resources to learning about their grantees and the (policy) ecosystems in which they work.  That’s just smart advice.

What’s Up with Development Evaluation, Anyway?

Last week, we linked to Charney Research’s latest report on the state of development evaluation, which is chock-full of insights about the field and where it’s going.  If you have limited time and want to learn the key takeaways from this research, take heed: Craig Charney will be hosting a quick 1-hour lunchtime webinar on February 4th to discuss his findings.  Cindy Clapp-Wincek, Director of the Office of Learning, Evaluation a nd Research at USAID, will be on hand to chat about the implications for evaluation practice.
