Biography

Henry Louis Gates, Jr. is the W.E.B. Du Bois Professor of the Humanities and the chair of the Department of African and African American Studies at Harvard University, and serves as the director of the W.E.B. DuBois Institute for African and African American Research. He is general editor of The Norton Anthology of African American Literature, coeditor of Transition magazine, regular contributor to The New Yorker and the author of several books and articles, as well as writing and hosting a number of documentary films for PBS and the BBC.
