Biography

Michael K. Powell Michael K. Powell served as the Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, he was appointed in 2001 by President Bush. From 1997 - 2001 he served as Commissioner of the FCC appointed by President Clinton. Mr. Powell created the right regulatory conditions to stimulate the deployment of powerful technologies that put more power in the hands of the people. He clearly saw the importance of the rise of digital technologies and the impact they would have on our lives, from health care to education. Mr. Powell put the consumers on the forefront by campaigning for the right to keep your phone numbers when switching wireless carriers, to fighting to block unwanted telemarketing calls with a Do-Not-Call list. Mr. Powell is a Senior Advisor to Providence Equity Partners, and Chairman of the MK Powell Group, LLC. Mr. Powell additionally serves as Rector of the Board of Visitors of the College of William and Mary, and on the Board of Directors of ObjectVideo and the Rand Corporation, and the board of advisors for the Disabled for Life Memorial Fund.
