Katia DumontKatia Dumont, Central America and Mexico Regional Chapter Coordinator 
Katia Dumont joined ANDE as the Central America and Mexico Chapter Coordinator in 2012. Previously, Katia worked for two years at MTQ Consulting with social and development programs in her native El Salvador and the Central American region.  While there, she proposed and evaluated a variety of projects focused on economic inclusion for at-risk youth and local fishermen. Katia received a B.A. in International Affairs and Sociocultural Anthropology at the George Washington University and recently finished her MBA in Creative Enterprises at the Complutense University in Madrid.

Genevieve EdensGenevieve Edens, Impact Assessment Manager 
Genevieve has five years of experience across private, non-profit, and academic settings. She comes to ANDE from the international non-profit ACDI/VOCA, where she supported projects in the Enterprise Development portfolio with a focus on the cooperative business model in East Africa and Latin America. Before moving to Washington DC, Genevieve spent several years living in Tanzania; there, she worked for the coffee importer Sustainable Harvest linking producers to high-premium specialty coffee markets. Genevieve also conducted research at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University on cultural differences in charitable giving. Genevieve is pursuing an MBA at George Washington University, and has a B.A. from Wesleyan University in African History.

Jenny Everett, Program ManagerJenny Everett, Associate Director
Jenny has fifteen years’ experience in the private and non-profit sectors. Most recently, she was the Senior Program Manager, Membership and Individual Donors at Hispanics in Philanthropy. She has also worked with DoubleClick in San Francisco and the Concha y Toro winery in Santiago, Chile. During business school, she worked with Agora Partnerships in Nicaragua, Enterprise Solutions for Poverty in New York, and Investors’ Circle in San Francisco. She currently serves on the Advisory Committee of the DC Social Innovation Project and is a former member of the Advisory Council of the New York Venture Philanthropy Fund and the Board of Refugee Transitions in San Francisco. She has an MBA from the NYU Stern School of Business and a BA in Latin American Studies from Davidson College.

Stella HanlyStella Hanly, Operations Associate
Stella joined the ANDE team in October 2011. Stella has more than a decade of experience in providing technical and consulting support for various software applications. Previously, Stella was a Senior Consultant at Manhattan Associates, Inc. where she consulted on post-implementation software environments. She is pursuing an MPA with a concentration in non-profit management at George Mason University and received her BSc in Mathematics from The Queen’s University of Belfast in her native Ireland. Stella sits on the board of directors of Days End Farm Horse Rescue, a nonprofit organization located in Maryland.

Joanna Herrmann, Senior Program Associate
Joanna Herrmann is the Senior Program Associate of the Aspen Network of Development Entrepreneurs.  She has been at the Aspen Institute since June 2008, and has had the unique opportunity of seeing ANDE evolve from its roots!  Within ANDE, Joanna has a variety of responsibilities, from membership processes to corporate engagement.  Joanna has a dual-role at the Aspen Institute, also working for the Aspen Global Leadreship Network in the Leadership and Seminar Programs department.  Previously Joanna worked for Legal Momentum, a legal defense and education nonprofit striving to protect immigrant women against domestic violence.  Joanna is a graduate of the University of Virginia where she majored in Human Rights and wrote her senior thesis on the International Criminal Court.  She studied abroad in London and is the co-founder of The Ben Topus Camp, a nonprofit overnight camp for inner-city kids that ran for three summers.

Randall Kempner, Executive DirectorRandall Kempner, Executive Director
Randall Kempner is Executive Director of the Aspen Network of Development Entrepreneurs (ANDE). As executive director of ANDE, Randall oversees the implementation of ANDE’s extensive program and training agenda, its six international chapters, and multiple grant and challenge competitions that support the entrepreneurship sector. Randall has twenty years of experience in the field of international economic development.  Most recently, he served as Vice President for Regional Innovation at the U.S. Council on Competitiveness and prior to that was a founder of OTF Group.  Randall graduated from the University of Texas with an M.B.A and an M.P.Aff. He earned his bachelor's degree in Government from Harvard College.

Saurabh profile picSaurabh Lall, Research Director
Saurabh Lall leads ANDE’s research initiative, which focuses on understanding the impact of small and growing businesses on poverty and economic development. Saurabh was previously the Research Officer of the New Ventures program at the World Resources Institute, where he studied the investment potential of environmental entrepreneurship in developing countries. Originally from Mumbai, Saurabh has also worked on rural water and sanitation issues in several states across India. He has a Master of Public Policy degree from George Washington University and a Bachelor of Engineering degree from the University of Mumbai. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Public Policy and Administration at the George Washington University, focusing on impact investing and program evaluation.

Mary Mwangi, East Africa Regional Chapter Coordinator
Mary joined ANDE in 2012 as the East Africa Chapter Coordinator. Previously she has worked with the African Venture Capital Association. Mary is passionate about development entrepreneurship and while pursuing her Masters, she authored a research report on the efficacy of tertiary education and business development services in promoting and supporting youth entrepreneurship in Kenya. She has an MBA with a concentration in Entrepreneurship from United States International University, Chandaria Business School and a B.A in Communication and Political Science from the University of Nairobi.

Nompu NtseleNompumelelo Ntsele, South Africa Regional Chapter Coordinator
Nompu joined ANDE in 2012 as the South Africa Regional Chapter Coordinator.  Prior to joining ANDE, Nompu was a Political/Government Affairs Analyst with the United States Embassy.  Nompu has a passion for community development and loves working with grassroots organizations. She worked with the local municipality of the city of Tshwane in South Africa where she was an integral part of a number of service delivery projects; including delivering water to all informal settlements and establishing the first integrated transport system for Pretoria. Nompu has two years of research experience with the Institute for Security Studies, Electoral Institute for Southern Africa and PAX- Africa as well as three years of experience in grant management.  She is a graduate of Rhodes University with an undergraduate degree in Politics and a post-graduate degree in African Diplomacy and Peacekeeping. 

Rebeca RochaRebeca da Rocha, Brazil Regional Chapter Coordinator
Rebeca joined ANDE in 2012 after 5 years working in marketing and communications in Recife, Sao Paulo and Egypt. Prior to joining ANDE, she worked in a social business start-up focused on developing innovative trading solutions for the agricultural and food markets in Brazil. She also coordinated the External Relations area of AIESEC in Brazil, a global organization dedicated to developing youth leadership.  She has a Bachelor's degree in Journalism from the Catholic University of Pernambuco and is originally from Recife in northeastern Brazil.

Daina RubackDaina Ruback, Program Coordinator
Daina joined ANDE as Program Coordinator in July 2012.  Previously, she worked with aspiring Hispanic entrepreneurs as the Spanish Programs Coordinator and Business Counselor for the Women's Enterprise Development Center in White Plains, New York.  Prior to this, Daina served in the Peace Corps in Nicaragua as a Small Business Educator and Counselor.  She graduated with a B.S. in Business Management from Babson College in 2008.

 

The Executive Committee

ANDE is governed by two bodies, the Aspen Institute and the ANDE Executive Comimttee.  As ANDE operates under the non-profit status of the Aspen Institute, the official bylaws of the organization are The Aspen Institute bylaws.  The Aspen Institute thus maintains fiduciary and legal oversight.  The ANDE Executive Committee provides strategic direction and operational oversight.  The Executive Committee is led by a Chairman who presides over committee meetings.
