ANDE Training Programs
ANDE offers two training programs for its members. The annual Orientation Training each May offers an introduction to impact investing for new hires to the sector. Periodic Investment Manager Trainings occur around the world and give an overview of investing in small and growing businesses.
ANDE Orientation Training
ANDE offers and orientation each May for new hires in the impact investing sector. The ANDE Orientation Training is a two-day overview of the small and growing business (SGB) sector and doing deals in emerging markets. Geared towards new hires, summer associates, and those new to the sector, 175+ individuals have participated in this training over the past two years. A sample program agenda is available here.
We are in the process of setting dates of the 2013 training and details will be available on the ANDE Events page soon.
ANDE Investment Manager Training
The ANDE Investment Manager Training course is the only course of its kind which provides a comprehensive overview of investing in small and growing businesses. The course is designed both for investment managers who are actively making investments in SGBs and capacity development providers who are working to support entrepreneurs through the investment process. The five day course covers the entire investment process – from deal sourcing and due diligence to term sheets, ongoing business support, and exit strategies. Course material is largely based on ANDE member experience and case studies. The class is highly interactive and intentionally designed to facilitate group learning amongst the participants. A sample training agenda is available here.
We held the course most recently in Brazil in August 2012. Twenty professionals from across the globe participated in the training. In addition to the lecture and group work, the course included a site visit to discuss the due diligence and investment process from the point of the view of the entrepreneur. Throughout the course attendees identified new ways in which their organizations could work together – building new relationships and partnerships.
We have also held the course in India (December 2011), Mexico (August 2011) and Kenya (March 2010). While dates and locations have yet to be determined, we hope to hold at least one more course in 2013.
Feedback
Here’s what people have to say about the course:
“This is the most effective Investment Manager training program globally right now. The experience of the trainers and the quality of the class is absolutely unmatched. I have learnt more here than i did during my MBA.” -Srey Bairiganjan, New Ventures India – India 2011
"The ANDE Investment Manager training was an amazing opportunity to learn from not only excellent trainers but also my fellow impact investors. Seldom have I been involved with a group so diverse in experience, thought, or origin and the result was a truly valuable experience that I can apply in my everyday work." – Caroline Bressan, Calvert Foundation – Mexico 2011
“The ANDE Investment Manager training successfully broke down the parts of the investment process into an interactive course which allowed beginners to grasp key concepts and those with experience to deepen their understanding. One of the greatest values of doing the course in India was getting to interact with the other participants who came from across the sector here from incubators, early stage investors to multilateral investing bodies. This broad perspective helped us to see synergies and opportunities to collaborate with one another long after the course is over. I'd recommend this course for associates and managers working across the impact investing spectrum.” -Molly Alexander, Acumen Fund – India 2011
“I was particularly impressed with the depth, knowledge and facilitators. Their experience and contextualization was awesome. Personally, I feel that I have gained way, way more than we invested in my coming to this investment course – understood different models and approaches, interacting with a phenomenal group of participants and developing a network of connections with whom I am sure I will work with more on the future. Many many grateful thanks for your excellent work”. - Dean Hand, Greater Capital – Kenya 2010
"Those 5 days transformed the way I thought about Impact Investing"- Vijesh Nair, Shorebank International – India 2011
"The course provided great insight into the investment process for social businesses. The caliber of participants was extremely high and various perspectives were represented from equity investors to debt investors to capacity building organizations. This provided for some engaging and challenging conversations and learning amongst the group". – Vikas Bahl, Dasra – Mexico 2011
