Christopher McKnett

Chris McKnett is a Vice President of ESG Investing at Boston-based State Street Global Advisors, the world’s largest institutional investment manager with US$ 1.4 trillion under management (as of December 31, 2008). He is the functional head for the firms’ global Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) investment business with US$ 60 billion under management. Chris works across asset classes and investment teams to champion sustainable investment on behalf of SSgA and its clients. His primary responsibilities include analyzing ESG trends, producing thought leadership, product management, competitive analysis and business strategy. Much of his work consists of engaging with portfolio managers, researchers, client-facing personnel and senior SSgA executives to build the business case for ESG investing and leverage resources to create solutions. Chris regularly meets with clients and prospective clients, investment consultants and speaks at industry events. He joined SSgA in October 2007.

Previously, Chris headed business development for KLD Indexes, a unit of KLD Research & Analytics, Inc., a leading ESG research and index provider. During Chris’s tenure, KLD more than doubled its product lineup and significantly grew its book of business. Chris was initially hired by KLD in 2005 as a Research Analyst covering the Financial Services sector. From 1999 – 2003, Chris was a Registered Representative for American Century Investments. During this experience, he discovered the burgeoning sustainable investing industry and began mapping his career path towards his present position

In the years between college and his first job in finance, Chris worked with the AmeriCorps, then just a two-year old organization. As a Corps Member, he completed over 1,800 hours of service. He also participated as a Team Leader with responsibility for a team of 14 Corps Members. As an MBA candidate, Chris was the recipient of the 2005 Wall Street Journal Student Achievement Award and was nominated for the 2005 Daniels Award for Excellence.

Chris earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Connecticut and his MBA from the University of Denver’s Daniels College of Business. At Daniels, Chris pursued a concentration in Values Based Leadership.
