Amy Garmer is Director of Journalism Projects in the Aspen Institute’s Communications and Society Program. During her 10-year tenure with the Program, she also served as Associate Director responsible for overseeing the day to day operations of the Program and the development of all Program conferences, publications, and other projects before focusing her attention on journalism-specific projects. She now works for the Program in a part-time capacity.
Ms. Garmer is the author of American Journalism in Transition: A View at the Top (The Aspen Institute, 2001), editor of Investing in Diversity: Advancing Opportunities for Minorities and the Media (The Aspen Institute, 1998), co-editor of Digital Broadcasting and the Public Interest (The Aspen Institute, 1998), and co-author of Creating a Learning Society: Initiatives for Education and Technology (The Aspen Institute, 1996).
Prior to joining the Aspen Institute, Ms. Garmer served on the staff of U.S. Senator Sam Nunn and worked with the Library of Congress Motion Picture and Broadcasting division to establish a national television news archive. She holds degrees from the University of Virginia and the University of Texas at Austin. She resides with her husband and three children in suburban Maryland.
