IDEA Initiative

Recognizing the fundamental role of population and health to sustainable development and the critical need for new, influential spokespersons from diverse sectors to advocate for the centrality of reproductive health, GHD’s Informing Decision Makers to Act (IDEA) project will mobilize and equip select high-level policymakers to serve as champions, expand dialogues through new cross-sectoral global forums, and collaborate with partners to increase knowledge, policy action, and resources for reproductive health. Through IDEA, GHD will work to expand the dialogue around reproductive health, equip decision-makers to serve as champions, and reach new audiences by leveraging our current partners and connections to high-level policymakers.

Over the past decade, many senior-level decision-makers have lacked strong support of population and reproductive health policies and programs. GHD is one of three IDEA projects funded by USAID and works in tandem with co-grantees Population Reference Bureau and the Woodrow Wilson Center to advance broad-based and high-level support for the centrality of reproductive health to global development and prosperity. At GHD, the Aspen Institute IDEA project coordinates three global forums where influential thinkers and scholars engage with policy-makers and program practitioners to discuss the linkages between population, security, environment, economic development, and health. These forums - the "7 Billion: Conversations That Matter" Roundtable Series, the Geneva Policy Dialogue Series for Reproductive Health, and The Aspen Ideas Festival work around population - serve as platforms to engage new audiences, spotlight new research and best practice, and create political momentum at the highest level.
