The Aspen Health Stewardship Project is an initiative by the Aspen Institute to help chart the wisest course for the reform of the U.S. health care system. Established in October 2007, the project seeks to refocus the national conversation on health care reform on the root causes of the nation's broken health care system, not just its symptoms. Toward that end, the project has developed bipartisan principles; and is working to encourage their adoption in the policymaking process. The principles are supported by short explanations, backgrounders;, a national poll; and a white paper. Consistent with the Institute's history and ideals, the project convened a bipartisan group of health care opinion leaders from the academic, industry, policy and government sectors to help guide its work. Additionally, the newly formed Aspen Health Stewardship Coalition; is helping to further explore and promote the principles. The project is chaired by Christine Todd Whitman, former governor of New Jersey and founder of the Whitman Strategy Group; Mark Ganz, president and CEO of Regence BlueCross BlueShield; Joe Hogan, president and CEO of ABB Group (formerly the president and CEO of GE Healthcare); and Elizabeth Olmsted Teisberg, tenured professor at the University of Virginia Darden School of Business and co-author of the seminal book "Redefining Health Care." In addition to the co-chairs, the project features an advisory board; of 10 people, including doctors, scholars, health policy experts and information technology leaders. The full list of board members is provided on the advisory board page. The project also has been supported by a team of faculty researchers from the George Washington University School of Public Health and Health Services. The project's director is Dr. Franmarie Kennedy of the Aspen Institute. |
