Manufacturing and Society in the 21st Century

Program Overview

The U.S. manufacturing sector has long been a source of good jobs, innovation, and global competitiveness, as well as a pillar of both community stability and national security. Somewhat paradoxically, in the current economic climate, many fear the decline of this sector, even though it is leading the stubbornly weak economic recovery and shows clear signs of regaining momentum. What can be done to preserve and strengthen this critical part of the U.S. economy and society? The “Manufacturing and Society in the 21st Century” program brings business, government, and opinion leaders together to discuss, analyze, build consensus, and advocate on many of the important problems and opportunities affecting the future of this crucial sector in an increasingly globalized economy. Policy discussions are held in Washington, DC, and a CEO-level seminar is held in Aspen to analyze and build consensus on issues important to the sector.
