Whats Your Big Idea?
We know that Bezos scholars—students and educators— are changed by their extraordinary experiences at the Aspen Ideas Festival. We know that they walk away recharged and inspired to share big ideas with their schools and communities back home.
So as a complement to the Bezos Scholars Program, we created the School Award to inspire and support the development of leadership in each scholar’s school and local community.
It works like this: each of the student/ educator scholar teams, in conjunction with respective high schools, will apply for $1,000 grants to be used as seed money to create mini "Ideas Festivals" within their schools and communities. We encourage the "Ideas Festival" teams to focus on relevant issues to the school and to the community, and to be realistic in scope/size. The Aspen Institute—a remarkable resource—will make available lectures and presentations from select past Aspen Ideas Festivals for use at school festivals.
Featured School Award Recipient: Hellgate High School's "Missoula Ideas Festival"
Using the Aspen Ideas Festival as a model, Hellgate High School in Missoula MT, has created two successful, annual Missoula Ideas Festivals to expand global awareness and create a community forum that provided a stimulating film and speaker series.
