The Challenge of Leadership Seminar
Two back-to-back classes of South African Fellows met in Pilgrim's Rest, South Africa, at the Barloworld Farm in September 2006. The third South Africa class of the Africa Leadership Initiative was launched September 12-16, with the Challenge of Leadership Seminar. The group explored the elements of leadership, both good and bad, and discussed what good leaders do and what they do not do. They developed their own leadership handbook and engaged in a series of team building exercises to bond the group. The class, comprises of ten women and nine men between the ages of 30-45 -- all of whom have achieved great success in their field and are poised to step up to the next level of leadership in their organizations, communities and countries. They come from the entrepreneurial business, governmental, and not-profit sectors. The class adopted the name "Seriti" in honor of an African term that implies quiet wisdom and influence. The Seriti class is made possible by generous support from Barloworld, Inc. an industrial brand management company headquartered in Johannesburg. (http://www.barloworld.com/content/main/home.asp).
