Entitled Exploring the Promise of Entrepreneurship Education: Access to Opportunity, national leaders from the fields of education, entrepreneurship and business, public policy, media and philanthropy discussed the promise of implementing youth entrepreneurship education nationwide, with special attention to the 9th and 10th grade levels, a time when many students are at highest risk of disengaging from school and dropping out. Presenters included Alex Nock, Deputy Staff Director of the U.S. House of Representatives Education and Labor Committee; Dane Linn, YESG member and Director of the Education Division for the National Governors Association; Charles Hiteshew, YESG member and Chief Operating Officer of America’s Promise; Cathy Ashmore, YESG member and Executive Director of the Consortium for Entrepreneurship Education; Kelvin James, YESG member and Director of Community Investment for E*TRADE Bank; and Anoop Prakash, Associate Administrator for Entrepreneurial Development for the U.S. Small Business Administration.  “We are looking to YESG to develop and implement strategies that help educators, policymakers, and influential leaders in the education field understand how teaching entrepreneurship can make a difference in the lives of young people, ” says Peter Reiling, Executive Vice President of the Aspen Institute. YESG is a partnership between the Aspen Institute and the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) with the generous support of E*TRADE Financial. “The Youth Entrepreneurship Strategy Group (YESG) is engaged in an extremely important conversation about ways to increase accessibility to entrepreneurship education,” says Michael Caslin, Executive Vice President for NFTE. “YESG’s successful efforts will in turn influence hundreds of thousands of young lives in America over the coming years. YESG members have chosen to participate in the exploration of a critical human capital development issue—why we learn what we learn when we learn it, and we are very fortunate to have the leadership of 33+ national organizations involved.”
