First Class of Fellows Graduates

On March 9-13, 2005, the inaugural class of Africa Leadership Fellows from Ghana convened in a conference room overlooking the renowned Volta River Dam in Akosombo, Ghana, for the fourth and last seminar in their 36-month fellowship program.  They are the first class of Africa Leadership Fellows to "graduate".

The Ghana seminar, co-moderated by Keith Berwick, Executive Director of the Aspen Institute's Henry Crown Fellowship Program, and Peter Reiling, Institute Executive Vice President and Henry Crown Fellow, was entitled "The Promise of Leadership", and focused on the Fellows' personal legacy and future plans.

Hosting the seminar, Kenneth Ofori-Atta, Executive Chairman of Databank Financial Services Ltd. -- yet another Henry Crown Fellow and Chairman of the Africa Leadership Initiative in Ghana -- congratulated the Fellows for their leadership achievements, including their personal Leadership Projects, and called on their support to recruit and help finance the next class of Fellows there.

The Africa Leadership Initiative (ALI) in Ghana is a collaborative venture of the Aspen Institute, the Databank Foundation and TechnoServe.  The Initiative will "graduate" fifty other Fellows from Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Mozambique and South Africa as 2005 progresses while launching a new class of 20 South African Fellows on April 16 in Aspen, Colorado.
