The Aspen Global Leadership Network (AGLN)
As the 21st century unfolds, the world is confronted with a mounting array of challenges -- persistent poverty, environmental degradation, homelessness, clashes of cultures, insecurity, and more. Yet, thanks to advances in communications and technology, the coming decades hold great promise to bring vast numbers of people into the global mainstream of commerce and trade in addition to giving them access to important advances in science, medicine and education.
The AGLN is a worldwide community of entrepreneurial business, government and civil society leaders committed to values-based leadership. Through its programs, the AGLN is spurring these leaders --"Fellows" -- to move “from success to significance” and “from thought to action” by tackling the foremost societal challenges of our times. Collectively, the 600 Fellows from 30 countries that currently comprise the AGLN have the potential to make a measurable impact on some of the world's most intractable issues.
All AGLN Fellows are between the ages of 25 and 50. All have proven themselves through success in their respective fields. All have spent weeks in dialogue with others in their cohort on leadership, values and "the good society," and have committed to putting their ideas into action through a leadership project in their communities and countries. And all have participated in one of the following initiatives:
John P. McNulty Prize. The John P. McNulty Prize celebrates the spirit and memory of John P. McNulty by supporting extraordinary young leaders making creative, effective and lasting contributions to their communities. The $100,000. prize will be awarded for the first time in November 2008 to an Aspen Global Leadership Network Fellow to help further his or her outstanding initiative. All Fellows with active projects underway for at least two years and with a demonstrated record of success are encouraged to apply. Visit www.mcnultyprize.org for information about John McNulty's legacy of leadership and the online application and guidelines. See this short video: Quicktime, Windows Media Player for more on the prize and highlights of two exemplary projects.
Additional Leadership Initiatives
- Socrates Society Seminars
A forum for emerging leaders to explore leadership challenges. Discussions are built around advance readings of classical and contemporary works, and led by dynamic moderators who encourage participants to share their interpretations. The weekend sessions are not lectures, but rather exercises in the Socratic method: the primary benefits derive from diverse, thoughtful, and active contributions by Socrates participants.
