Walter Isaacson to Welcome Fellows at the SOF Opening Reception 
Saturday, June 22, 5:30-7:30 pm, McNulty, Doerr-Hosier.  
Aspen Institute President and CEO Walter Isaacson will welcome Society of Fellows members and provide an update on the worldwide work of the Institute. Alan Fletcher, Aspen Institute Trustee, will then lead a conversation on the legacy of the Great American Songbook with acclaimed band leader Peter Duchin and Loren Schoenberg, artistic director, The National Jazz Museum in Harlem. Ideas Festival - Public Tickets Go On Sale Friday, June 21
June 26-July 2, Aspen, CO. In an effort to share the Aspen Ideas Festival with the community, a number of events are open to both pass holders and non-pass holders.  Individual event tickets for the 2013 Aspen Ideas Festival will be available for purchase on Friday, June 21 at 9:00 am MDT through Aspen Show Tickets at the Wheeler in person, online at www.aspenshowtix.com or by calling (970) 920-5770. The schedule for these individual events will be available in The Aspen Times on June 20. Although many of these public sessions will sell out quickly, here's one of the best-kept secrets of the Ideas Festival: if you are unable to secure a ticket in advance, there are often tickets available at the venue 15 minutes before the event. 

Note: If you purchased a pass to the Ideas Festival, you should have received an email last week with instructions on advance signup for Breakfast, Lunch, and Evening sessions. Be sure to register before June 19 when the registration link will close.

Society of Fellows One Day Symposium: The Great American Songbook
Saturday, June 22, 8:30-3:00 pm,  McNulty, Doerr-Hosier.  This unique symposium, offered in collaboration with the Aspen Music Festival and School, will explore the nuances and ongoing impact of the Great American Songbook, as well as an in-depth exploration of the musicians who brought this music to life. Special focus will be paid to the Songbook’s origins; its synergy with jazz; and its resonance in contemporary culture. Through analysis, lecture, discussion, multimedia presentation and readings, participants will enjoy extraordinary access to this seminal period in American music. The panel will include Peter Duchin, musician and band leader; Loren Schoenberg, artistic director, The National Jazz Museum in Harlem; and Alan Fletcher, President and CEO, Aspen Music Festival and School. National Service: A Civic Rite of Passage 
Tuesday, June 25, 6:30-7:30, Greenwald Pavilion.  New Event!
The Aspen Institute’s Franklin Project has a bold vision for civilian national service as a common expectation and opportunity for all Americans. The National Service Summit will conclude with a public event to show the power of national service to address public challenges and will feature opening remarks by Gen. Stanley McChrystal (Ret., US Army). Panelists include: New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu; Barbara Bush, CEO and co-founder of HealthCorps; best selling author and US Army veteran Wes Moore; and moderator E.J. Susman Conversation on Individual Constitutional Rights

Socrates Program Dinner
