End of Illness The Alma and Joseph Gildenhorn Book Series with David Agus

David Agus is a professor of medicine and engineering at the USC Keck School of Medicine and heads USC’s Westside Cancer Center and the Center for Applied Molecular Medicine. Damian Woetzel The Museum as Forum: Creative Dialogues for the 21st Century
December 8, 2011, 1:00-2:30 pm, The Aspen Institute, Washington, DC. This installment of the Washington Ideas Roundtable features Richard Koshalek, Director of the Smithsonian’s Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden. Koshalek oversees a collection of 11,500 objects that represent pieces by leading artists from the late 19th century to the present day, including paintings, sculpture, mixed media pieces, photography, works on paper, video and film. He is noted for his commitment to new artistic initiatives, including commissioned works, scholarly exhibitions and publications and the building of new facilities that garnered architectural acclaim. Moderated by Damian Woetzel, Director of the Aspen Institute Arts Program and the Harman-Eisner Artist-in-Residence Program.

Admiral Dennis BlairKey Threats: US Readiness in Perilous Times
November 28, 2011, 12:00-1:30 pm, The Aspen Institute, Washington, DC. Admiral (Ret.) Dennis Blair served as Director of National Intelligence from January 2009 to May 2010. He led sixteen national intelligence agencies, administering a budget of $50 billion and providing integrated intelligence support to the President, Congress and operations in the field. From 2003 to 2006, Admiral Blair was president and chief executive officer of the Institute for Defense Analyses. During his Navy career, Admiral Blair served as Commander in Chief, U.S. Pacific Command. Ashore, he served as Director of the Joint Staff and held budget and policy positions on the National Security Council and several major Navy staffs.

Byron DorganThe Historical Journey of Native American Youth
November 16, 2011, 12:00-1:30 pm, The Aspen Institute, Washington, DC. To commemorate Native American Heritage month this November, the Center for Native American Youth will host a roundtable luncheon event. The event will raise awareness of the history, sovereignty, and the current status of the American Indian and Alaska Native population. Senator Byron Dorgan, the Center’s founder, will moderate a discussion panel and take questions from the audience. This expert panel will include a tribal leader, members from the Center’s Board of Advisors and representatives from the administration.

George Stevens, Jr. The Washington Ideas Roundtable Series: Creativity in America

George Stevens, Jr. has created a legacy of distinguished work as a writer, director, and producer of motion pictures and television. As a writer and producer Stevens has earned 11 Emmys, two George Foster Peabody Awards for Meritorious Service to Broadcasting, and nine awards from the Writers Guild of America. Currently, Stevens is producing the thirty-second annual “Kennedy Center Honors,” a feature length documentary on the famed political cartoonist Herb Block.
