Danny Meyer- 2012 Preston Robert Tisch Award in Civic Leadership

On November 29, Danny Meyer was presented with the Aspen Institute 2012 Preston Robert Tisch Award in Civic Leadership. This program was moderated by Aspen president Walter Isaacson about civic leadership.

Danny Meyer is the CEO of Union Square Hospitality Group, which includes Union Square Cafe, Gramercy Tavern, Blue Smoke, Jazz Standard, Shake Shack, The Modern, Cafe 2 and Terrace 5 (at the Museum of Modern Art), Maialino, Untitled (at the Whitney Museum of American Art), North End Grill, Union Square Events and Hospitality Quotient.

Born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, Danny Meyer grew up in a family that relished great food, cooking, get-togethers, travel and hospitality. Thanks to his father’s travel business, he spent much of his childhood eating, visiting near and far-off places, and sowing the seeds for his future passion for food, wine, and a successful career in the hospitality industry. Danny, his restaurants and chefs have earned an unprecedented 28 James Beard Awards.

An active national leader in the fight against hunger, Danny has long served on the boards of Share Our Strength and City Harvest. He is equally active in civic affairs, having served as the Co-Chair of the Union Square Partnership and on the executive committees of NYC & Co and the Madison Square Park Conservancy.
