The Center for Native American Youth hosted an event at the Aspen Institute on June 6th regarding the Indian Child Welfare Act and its importance to Native American youth. The challenges and successes experienced by that population are too often invisible in the national dialogue – the disproportionate presence of Native American children in the foster care system is a critical example. Former Senator Byron Dorgan, Chairman and Founder of CNAY, engaged in dialogue with a panel consisting of: Hilary Tompkins, Solicitor of the Department of the Interior; Robert McGhee, Treasurer of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians; and Seanna Pieper-Jordan, a Native American youth and intern at CNAY.
