• Corporate Leadership Society

In 1945, prominent Chicago businessman Walter Paepcke visited Aspen, Colorado, for the first time. Inspired by its natural beauty, he envisioned it as an ideal gathering place for thinkers, leaders, artists, and musicians from all over the world to step away from their daily routines and reflect on the underlying values of society and culture. He dreamed of transforming the town into a center for dialogue, a place for “lifting us out of our usual selves,” as a visitor to Paepcke’s Aspen once put it. Seventy-five years later, the Aspen Institute has realized Paepcke’s original vision in ways he could never have imagined.

Today, the Aspen Institute is a multi-faceted organization engaged in policy and leadership work, yet it has remained true to Paepcke’s original mission to foster leadership based on enduring values and to provide a nonpartisan venue for addressing the most critical issues of the day.

Our private sector partners have played a catalytic role in the Institute’s work from our inception until now. They represent a wide range of industries at the forefront of innovative thinking, committed to social and environmental responsibility.
