Indian Child Welfare – Highlighting the Invisible

The Center for Native American Youth is hosting an event at the Aspen Institute on June 6th from 12-1:30 PM regarding the Indian Child Welfare Act and its importance to Native American youth. The challenges and successes experienced by that population are too often invisible in the national dialogue – the disproportionate presence of Native American children in the foster care system is a critical example. Former Senator Byron Dorgan, Chairman and Founder of CNAY, will engage in dialogue with a panel consisting of: Hilary Tompkins, Solicitor of the Department of the Interior; Robert McGhee, Treasurer of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians; and Seanna Pieper-Jordan, a Native American youth and intern at CNAY.
