Washington, DC, July 19, 2021 –– The Aspen Institute today named its 2021 Class of Finance Leaders Fellows. The Finance Leaders Fellowship develops high-integrity leaders into an action-oriented community prepared to use their leadership platforms and expertise to redefine the practices and priorities in the global finance industry.
“We welcome the 2021 Class of Fellows at a watershed moment for economies across the world,” said Kara Gustafson, Executive Director of the Finance Leaders Fellowship. “The pandemic has catalyzed a decisive shift in the way businesses consider the stakeholders they serve, the communities they impact, and the workforces they aspire to engage. This class of Fellows has the belief, talent, and resilience needed to positively reshape the future of the finance industry at an inflection point that demands values-driven leadership.”
Representing a diverse range of global perspectives and sectors within the finance ecosystem, the 23 leaders of the 2021 Class are commiting to a two-year fellowship that will challenge them to reflect on their roles and responsibilities as finance leaders and to cultivate a deeper understanding of values-driven leadership in practice.
From accelerated ESG initiatives and emerging digital currencies, to post-pandemic economic relief and racial equity and justice, the Fellows pledge to turn their reflection into action by launching a leadership impact Venture to bring market-based solutions to critical societal challenges. The Fellowship was co-founded in 2016 by Aspen Institute Henry Crown Fellow, Ranji Nagaswami, and Aspen Institute Trustee, Chris Varelas.

The Finance Leaders Fellowship is developing a community of high-integrity leaders in the global finance industry, now with 105 Fellows across 20 countries. Using the Aspen Institute method of text-based dialogue, and building upon the Institute’s commitment to values-based, action-oriented leadership, the program encourages selected Finance Fellows to consider values and perspectives necessary for effective leadership in finance and in society at-large. The Fellowship was founded in 2016 by Aspen Institute Henry Crown Fellow, Ranji Nagaswami, and Aspen Institute Trustee, Chris Varelas, coming out of the 2008 financial crisis and the critical need to rebuild trust between the industry and society.
