Aspen Institute Transitions The Diaspora Investment Alliance (DIA) to Charities Aid Foundation of America

Washington, DC, February 17, 2016 – The Aspen Institute today announced the transfer of The Diaspora Investment Alliance (DIA) to Charities Aid Foundation of America (CAF America), the nation’s leader in global giving. The DIA will reside independently under CAF America who will evolve the initiative under its leadership and unique global footprint. DIA’s primary goal is to more effectively channel investments from diaspora communities into their countries of origin.

“We’re proud to transfer The Diaspora Investment Alliance to CAF America,” said Elliot Gerson of The Aspen Institute. “We’re confident that they will help evolve this important initiative and we are excited to see them play an integral role in shaping the future of both the DIA program and diaspora communities in the United States.”

Originally launched by the Aspen Institute in partnership with the Rockefeller Foundation, DIA aims to harness the untapped social and economic potential of diaspora communities while effectively helping make investments into countries of origin.

In addition to its ability to expedite philanthropic support to 215,000+ organizations in more than 90 countries, CAF America has the support of the CAF Global Alliance network, a philanthropic network of nine offices on six continents and serves as an official partner of the SDG Philanthropy Platform.  CAF America has unmatched capacity to offer both tactical and strategic support to diaspora populations eager to make a difference in their home countries.

CAF America will continue the DIA’s exploratory pilot phase, which is currently focusing on US diaspora communities (e.g., Bangladesh, India, Kenya, Nigeria, Pakistan, The Philippines, and Ukraine with others under consideration).
