The Aspen Institute Announces 2013 McCloskey Speaker Series Line-Up
Features Gov. Hickenlooper, Joseph J. Ellis, Condoleezza Rice, and others 

Aspen, CO, June 6, 2013 –– The Aspen Institute is pleased to announce a lineup of distinguished guests for the 2013 McCloskey Speaker Series, made possible by a generous donation from the McCloskey Family Charitable Foundation. Tickets will be made available two weeks prior to each event. Tickets ($20) are available at www.aspenshowtix.com, (970) 920-5770, or through the Wheeler Opera House. As full-capacity audiences are expected for this series, early ticket purchasing is encouraged. Doors will open 45 minutes prior to the start of the event, and unclaimed tickets will be on sale at the door.

In collaboration with the Aspen Security Forum 
Featuring US Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Mark A. Welsh III. As Chief, Gen. Welsh serves as the senior uniformed Air Force officer responsible for the organization, training, and equipping of 690,000 active-duty, Guard, Reserve, and civilian forces serving in the United States and overseas. As a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the general and other service chiefs function as military advisers to the secretary of defense, National Security Council, and to the president.

The Birth of American Independence with History Scholar Joseph J. Ellis
Featuring Joseph J. Ellis, one of the nation’s leading scholars of American history. The author of seven books, Ellis was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Founding Brothers: the Revolutionary Generation and won the National Book Award for American Sphinx, a biography of Thomas Jefferson. He will be featured in conversation with Walter Isaacson on the topic of his newest book, Revolutionary Summer: The Birth of American Independence (Alfred A. Knopf, June 2013).

Dr. Dambisa Moyo is an international economist and author. In 2009, Dambisa was named one of TIME Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the World. She is the author of the New York Times bestsellers Dead Aid: Why Aid is Not Working and How There is a Better Way for Africa and How the West Was Lost: Fifty Years of Economic Folly and the Stark Choices Ahead. Her third book, Winner Take All: China’s Race for Resources and What it Means for the World, was published in June 2012.
