Aspen Institute Berlin Announces New Executive Director
June 18, 2007 — Mr. Leonard Fischer, Chairman of the Executive Board of Aspen Institute Berlin, announced today that the institute’s trustees have selected Charles King Mallory IV to succeed Jeff Gedmin as the Executive Director of the institute.
Mr. Mallory will assume the position on August 1st, 2007, after spending five years at the U.S. Department of State as the Senior Advisor to the Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs.
Prior to his work at the Department of State, Mr. Mallory was a consultant to the Washington DC based private equity fund Allied Capital Corporation, Chief Executive Officer of Credit Suisse Investment Funds (Moscow) and Director of Credit Suisse First Boston Investment Management Limited, in London.
Before joining the private sector, Mr. Mallory was a research assistant, visiting fellow and assistant policy analyst at the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik and the RAND Corporation, respectively.
A graduate of Middlebury College, Vermont in Russian language and literature, Mr. Mallory co-authored “The Role of Chemical Weapons in Soviet Military Doctrine: Military and Historical Experience 1917-1982”, with Professor Joachim Krause of Kiel University, while at Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik and a number of analytical publications on security policy while at RAND.
