AILAS welcomes 32 new Ricardo Salinas Scholars to participate in Aspen Institute programs

Washington, DC, August 26, 2021–– The Aspen Institute Latinos and Society Program announced 32 recipients of the Ricardo Salinas Scholarship. The highly coveted scholarship, generously funded by Ricardo Salinas, founder and chairman of Grupo Salinas, increases American Latino and Mexican representation in leadership development training at the Aspen Institute.
“Across all industries, diversity is driving innovation, teamwork and overall success. Through the Ricardo Salinas Scholarship fund, we ensure that notable Latinos have a pathway to bring their unique perspectives, authenticity, and background to Aspen’s world-class programming,” said Domenika Lynch, executive director of the Aspen Institute Latinos and Society Program. “We are grateful to Ricardo Salinas and Grupo Salinas for unlocking the possibilities of exceptional candidates by equipping them with the networks and exposure they need to reach their full potential.”
Cultivating opportunity is at the heart of Salinas’ personal and professional philosophy. “I have always been convinced that those who are open to constant learning will dominate the future. The goal of the Ricardo Salinas Scholarship is precisely that: for more Mexicans and Latinos to have the tools to be world leaders,” he said.
After a selective two-part application process, the new cohort of Ricardo Salinas Scholars will contribute their talent, passion, and knowledge to twelve Aspen Institute programs and seminars held throughout 2021. Scholarship recipients represent prominent organizations including the Export-Import Bank of the United States, Mexican Federal Telecommunications Institute, Long Beach City College, Metropolitan Autonomous University-Xochimilco, Middlesex Community College, My World México, Puentech Lab, Pima Community College, Rapid Results Institute, Slack, Techqueria, Universidad del Valle de México, among others. The scholars, many of whom are first-generation college graduates, represent 16 different cities across the United States and Mexico.
Reflecting on his experience, Juan Zarco, a 2021 Aspen Young Leaders Fellow said, “The fellowship exposed me to different insightful viewpoints from individuals all around Chicago. Through this program, I feel that I have been able to further cultivate my strengths and improve my weaknesses, all while continuing to build my confidence as a leader. The relationships I have been able to create through the program have connected me with different communities that I otherwise wouldn’t have been exposed to.”
The 2021 Ricardo Salinas Scholarship cohort joins an international network of nearly 340 leaders who have participated across 90 Aspen Institute fellowships, seminars, and events.
